Exscitec – STEM World Summer School 2017

We are pleased to announce our new venue for 2017 is Uppingham School, an outstanding independent boarding school situated in the heart of England.  Academically one of the leading schools in the UK, the school benefits from a state-of-the-art science centre, sports facilities and boarding houses all situated in the heart of a beautiful English town and offers the perfect location for Exscitec’s leading UK Science Summer School.

On offer is a wide selection of educational and stimulating strands enabling students to engage in interactive STEM enrichment activities in the topic of their choice. Strands include hands-on workshops, demonstrations, and discussion designed to encourage high level thinking and stretch the brightest of students.

This course is for students who have an interest and passion for the STEM subjects and who have a desire to fulfil their potential academically whilst enjoying all the fun of a UK Summer School:

  • To provide hands on practical STEM investigation in a world class school environment
  • To challenge and stretch students and expand their knowledge of their chosen subject area
  • To give students from across the world the chance to experience a full and varied social programme
  • To give students the chance to mix with peers from across the world
  • To expose students to leading academics and current research
  • To provide information, advice and guidance on routes into STEM careers
  • To provide information and inspire debate on how the STEM subjects influence the world around us

Students enjoy a full week of academic activity, following a STEM subject of their choosing.

A typical week includes:

Day 1 – strand introductions, team building activity and start of academic sessions.

Day 2,3,4 – academic sessions, workshops and seminars. On Wednesday afternoon, all students join an excursion enabling students to relax, have fun and socialise together.

Day 5 – conclusion of academic sessions. Students present work to invited guests, academics, family and friends.

Residential students will experience an evening social programme of fully mentored and supervised pastoral activities. This will include sports activities, utilising the school’s fantastic grounds and excellent swimming and sporting facilities, STEM activities, quizzes, film night, BBQ’s etc.   Residential and non-residential places are available on all strands. (Students must be under the age of 18 and students who are not yet 11 are unfortunately not able to stay residentially).

Residential students staying the bridging weekend enjoy a fun packed time.  Previous visits include a day in London, Harry Potter World, a theme park, ten-pin bowling, punting, meals out and a cinema visit.
