Overview
Edinburgh Orchestral Rehearsal Week
Under two experienced professional conductors, Levon Parikian and Robert Chasey, players will enjoy working on a wide range of large-scale orchestral repertoire across the week, supported by professional string section principals. The week culminates not in concerts but in an open rehearsal day. The course is intended for conservatoire/university students, professionals wishing to enjoy working on big orchestral repertoire without the pressure of public performance, and good amateurs, grade 8+.
Rehearsals take place at George Heriot’s School, overlooking Edinburgh Castle. Accommodation is provided in shared self-catering apartments a short walk from the rehearsal venue and many Festival and Fringe venues. Alternatively, players are welcome to find their own accommodation (non-resident fees are available).
Subsidised fees apply to student applicants. We have a modest bursary fund to assist full-time students at UK conservatoires who would otherwise have difficulty finding the fees. Contact the administrator for details before applying.
The Rehearsal Orchestra is a musical charity that runs weekend and full-week rehearsal courses, offering high-level orchestral training through intensive rehearsal, on weekend courses in London and the annual Edinburgh residential week.
“The Rehearsal Orchestra does invaluable work on the quiet and with the minimum of fuss.”
